THE MIGHT OF THE MCU EMPIRE

It's hard to believe that in 2008 a new superhero film launched what has arguably become one of the most successful media franchises in history. With 27 massively successful movies under its belt - and with more to come - we take a look at the Marvel Cinematic juggernaut to not only assess its impact on modern day pop culture society, but to question what lies ahead for its future.

THE COSPLAY REVOLUTION

Without doubt one of the most enjoyable pastimes for all fans of pop culture is dressing up as your favourite movie or TV character. Yet what started out as bit of simple fun at Sci-Fi events decades ago has now become a serious money making industry where people not only spend thousands of dollars on their costumes, but a select few have turned it into their profession.

THE BEAST ON THE SCREEN - THE POWER OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY

In the 1980's when home computer gaming came into existence, it was seen as a way to have some fun from time to time. But with the arrival of the 21st century along with the advent of online connectivity, the industry is now so big and invasive many people, especially the youth of today, spend almost all their waking hours looking at a screen. So what is this doing to society?

ARE THE BEST YEARS OF STAR WARS YET TO COME

The Star Wars franchise is now an impressive 45 years old and in that time the screen has seen a dozen feature films, two live action TV series and numerous animated series. Yet at its heart Star Wars revolves around the nine episode opus of the Skywalker Saga. With so much new material still being produced, are the best years of Star Wars still ahead of it or will the Saga be the franchise's crowning achievement even in the decades to come?

ARE REBOOTS AND REMAKES KILLING ORIGINAL MEDIA!

In the past 22 years a lot of classic films have been remade even when the original version was still extremely popular, or in some cases a film has been 'rebooted' only a handful of years after the preceding version was released! Although we know WHY popular films are remade, there is a concern as to whether some studios are focusing too much on cashing in on a previous film's success at the expense of creating new material.

THE DEATH OF CELL ANIMATION. HAS CGI DESTROYED THE INDUSTRY!

From the earliest days of cinema, hand drawn cell animation has bedazzled and entertained generations of people, which also meant the employment of tens of thousands of talented artists and animators. But in 1985 a new animation technique appeared in the music video Money for Nothing and thus CGI entered the mainstream. Now nearly 40 years later, can cell animation ever return or has CGI destroyed it?

THE CURSE OF DC MEDIA REVISITED

For many decades DC sat atop the cinematic throne when it came to superhero box office successes. However, in recent years DC has suffered massive problems with regards to their products - whether it be legal issues with their actors, movies not meeting audience expectations, or completed movies not being released at all! So let us return our focus towards DC to see what has happened to them in recent times and to determine if can they ever recover!

BEHOLD THE MEGA-CON!

Picture this. Back in 1970 San Diego Comic-Con only had 300 attendees! Fast forward 50 years and not only has this event become the benchmark of all pop culture expos, but many other expos and conventions have followed a similar model focusing on large sized events with enormous attendances. But at what cost? Is there any room left for small regional conventions - much like how Comic-Con itself started out - or has the damage been done?

THE DESTRUCTION OF TIME - LOST FILM AND TV MEDIA

Although millions of hours of film and TV are produced globally each week, one of the sticking points for serious cinephiles and TV completists are the films and TV shows from decades past which no longer exist - because film and TV companies abruptly destroyed them as a cost saving measure. In this episode we look at "what could've been" regarding classic films and TV shows no one will ever get to see.

THE DESTRUCTION OF TIME - INTO THE DIGITAL REALM

Recently we looked at the large amount of film and TV material which had been lost over the past century, now we turn towards the digital gaming realm to look at the great content which has gone missing over the decades. Whether it be the shutting down of global gaming servers or instances where the gaming platforms themselves weren't preserved, we attempt to determine exactly where does it all go when it's no longer 'online' and can it ever return!

TURNING 'HIM' INTO A 'HER' - GENDER SWAPPING IN FILMS AND TV

Without doubt it's one of most controversial aspects of 21st century film and TV remakes and reboots, at what point do you change the gender of a pre-existing character and why? For some people it's a sign of modern cultural acceptance and gender equality, whilst for others it's unnecessary and has the potential to ruin an already successful franchise. We look at both the pros and cons of this trend to answer the most important question of all "is it being done for the right reason and is it good for the product?".
